October means it is time to check the smoke detectors. Good thing too. About half of ours were either disconnected or otherwise not working. The previous owner had a small fire in the house and the house has about twice as many smoke detectors as it needs so it took a while to check and replace them.

Last night when we came home I went out to round up the kittens and discovered a possum sitting on our back fence. I think all the local small critters use the connected fences as a super highway through the neighborhood. Nasty looking teeth those possums have, they look and are about the same size as dock rats.
