Austin, Texas

A garden blogger's conference took place last weekend and I took advantage of the chance to go check out Austin and meet some other bloggers. Austin while still clearly a 'western' as opposed to 'east coast' city is the most pedestrian and bike friendly city I've seen down here ( other'n here in The Woodlands ). Read More

Trinity River National Wildlife Preserve

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007
Today we wandered down to the Trinity River National Wildlife Preserve. It's down by highways 90 and 146 in Liberty Texas. I finally purchased some industrial strength mosquito spray but it was so windy we didn't need it. The industrial strength Deet is impressive. Six hours after applying it, we still stank bad enough to be embarrassed to go into a restaurant. I have no idea if it works on the mosquitoes or not? It is a park you want to visit on an overcast fall day. Trees are rare and I think you'd bake if you visited during the summer. We had a great time finding and… Read More

Armand Bayou

Sunday, November 11th, 2007
Today we wandered down to Armand Bayou. There are three, mile and half or so, trails through the woods. There is a lot less bayou than forest which was disappointing but it's a nice park never the less. Had I not had a duh moment this morning and left mosquito spray at home it would have been more enjoyable. We stumbled across an armadillo rooting for food. They must be extremely near sighted since he wouldn't have seen me at all had I not started swatting at a horde of attacking blood suckers. Spooky. Left over Halloween decorations on the trees I hope?… Read More
