What do you do while you wait your turn at the guillotine?

You play solitaire, lots of it.

These games were first played by the French nobel prisoners imprisoned in the Bastille while they waited for the guillotine. Game boards were drawn in the dirt and pebbles served as tokens. Later sailors passed the time with these puzzles as they sailed off in search of new adventures.
