Hurricane Ike pre-storm

Well it looks pretty unlikely I’m going to be able to fly out of here at 4pm tomorrow for Boston.  The vacation will have to wait.  I tried to catch an earlier flight but they are all booked solid.  Any flight to any where is booked, panic is slowly creeping across Houston.

So far the grocery stores here in The Woodlands are not bad.  They are busy, much like before Christmas or Thanksgiving, but the crowds were sane.  Lots of people are stocking up on water and toilet paper.  Otherwise the grocery carts were full of reasonable items.

Nothing else to do for the storm yet, but I feel I should be doing something.  I loaded the pantry with batteries, MRE’s and water when the last hurricane panic came about three years ago.  I also purchased a cool gadget that lets you plug regular power cords into a car charger.  If we loose power for a long time I can change laptops, cell phones etc.

We also have Sprint wireless cards so we’ll have net access if Comcast goes down.  Comcast goes down if someone in Houston sneezes.  It is unlikely to be up during or after the storm.  No need to buy anything more.

Businesses in the city are mostly closed tomorrow and many are letting out early today.  So far the highways are handling the evacuation traffic and regular traffic.  I don’t know how much longer that will last?

Now we wait.
