Biorb fish tanks and water plants

March 18th, 2008 · No Comments

I went to the pet store a month or so ago to purchase some water plants and a betta fish. I wanted to try growing a small water garden. While there I found this Biorb fish tank. It looked really cool and I decided I’d try my experiment in that.

I’ve never had much luck with fish tanks and I’ve never tried water gardens before so this is all new.

The first betta settled in well, the plants were doing so-so. I thought he might like a bit of company so I brought him a female. She promptly ate him.

Back to the store for betta #3 who is still doing quite well, it’s been about 4 weeks.

The plants I’m still working on figuring out. The first batch was dying. I did some digging and found out they wanted more light. So more light they have. I also added in quite a few more plants. I did a bit more digging and found that water plants want CO2. So I found some CO2 tabs at the pet store. I put a half of one in and the water turned cloudy for two days. ( It’s since cleared ). The plants don’t seem to have been thrilled either but it has only been a few days with them.

As soon as I get the water plant thing down I’ll post an entry on the house plants blog. In the meantime I have to say this is the lowest maintenance fish tank I’ve ever had.
