Visit to Moody Gardens

August 1st, 2007 · No Comments

This past weekend we ventured down to Moody Gardens in Galveston. There are these three huge glass pyramids you can see for miles and I’ve been wanting to go check them out. One is an aquarium, one is a science museum and one is a rain forest. We visited the rain forest and aquarium. The rain forest wasn’t that cool, especially since my yard has looked like a rain forest the better part of this year.

The aquarium was really cool and as good as any I’ve seen. They had several tanks full of sea horses that were really cool. They don’t photograph well so I didn’t get any good pictures of them. Strange creatures they are holding onto a plant with their tails and rocking back and forth all the time.

And of course since we were down there we had to go see the ocean and grab dinner on the beach. The waves are so large down here. Much larger than the ones in Nantasket Beach and those were impressive. The waves are often well over six feet. You don’t see a whole lot of swimmers down here and that’s not hard to understand. That undertow must be brutal when the waves retreat. You see lots of people fishing on the beach down here. It’s still really weird to see oil rigs off in the distance too.
