Uptown walls of water

without comments

I recently heard of the ‘Wall of Water’ behind the William’s Tower at Alabama and Post Oak. Today’s the first chance I had to go see it. When you are walking towards the water wall it seems unimpressive and I was wondering what the fuss was about. Once inside you can feel it. It feels as though you are standing in a water fall and getting carried away with the water. The wall is about 20′ tall and water cascades down both the inner and outer sides of the wall.

Across a lawn is the William’s Tower, by far the tallest building in up town Houston. It is a tall wall of black glass reminiscent of the monolith in ’2001 Space Odyssey’.

Around this area is Houston’s upscale shopping district. You have the Galleria and several strip malls of shops surrounding the Galleria on the east and north sides. It is still so strange to me to be deep in a city and see so few pedestrians about. Restaurants are totally upscale here as well. We ate at the ‘Grand Lux Cafe’ which is an upscale Cheese Cake Factory style and owned restaurant.
