Oddities in the flyover

Lots of things go by train down here. The trains are long, hundreds of cars long, many carrying really scary chemicals, the kind of chemicals you don’t want to be near if a train derails. Since you’re going to be parked a half hour or so waiting for the train to pass you can pass the time reading the chemicals written on the side while the train goes by and the warnings to the people who load and unload them. ‘Hook up ground cable before unloading’, ‘Hammering on side of car will contaminate product’, ‘Do not enter except with rubber shoes’. I’m sure glad these things go by train and not by truck.

There are highways everywhere and bayous and rivers everywhere so many highway overpasses are over water. Underneath just about any overpass you’ll find local impoverished people fishing. I’m not sure if they are there fishing just for fun or for dinner? It’s usually a family project, mom, dad and the children all out fishing under the bridge together.

Hard to think of Texas and not think of BBQ.

There are some very impressive spiders down here. The golden silk spider below is about 2″ across. He’s harmless just scary looking. They’ve been popping up everywhere the last couple of weeks.
