Road trip West to San Jacinito Monument then south to Galveston

June 10th, 2007 · No Comments

We took a road trip today heading west out route 10, south on 124 and south on 87 then a ferry to Galveston and home.

We went to visit the San Jacinto Monument but it is still under repair so there wasn’t much to see there. After traveling west a bit we headed south towards the coast. There’s little on 124 except ranches and a few oil pumps in the fields. It’s soooo flat here. Hot too, you can see the heat waves in the photos.

87 runs along Goat Island. There is ocean on one side and ranches on the other side.

To get to Galveston from Goat Island you must take the ferry. No fare for the ferry which was nice. The ferry takes you across the ship channel, by Port of Houston one of the world’s busiest ports.

The sea gulls follow the boats and snatch saltines out of the passengers hands.
