Riding about town

There are still some babies and nests at the rookery. I’m surprised, I would’ve thought they would have all had chicks at about the same time. The herons are the ones I really think are cool. I’m told the babies do wander from nest to nest, heron and egret alike and mom and dad just raise who ever happens to be in the nest at that time. Who knew birds had communes?

We ran across the deer herd on the way home. There are several bucks, does and at least 2 fawn. They are really cool to see. The fawn jump and leap more than they walk. I like them as long as they are not up here using my front garden for dinner.

We rode past South Shore park which has a large dam. There were about 6 ducklings walking down the dam in the water and one guy about 6 feet away sliding down. Always one odd duck in the bunch. ;-)

We both now have tans, ewwww. What can you do? It’s either tan or hide indoors. It is so bright down here. Not sure I’ll ever get used to the brightness. It is painful to walk across the street to grab the mail with out wearing sunglasses.

The squirrels got into one of the bird feeders yesterday so down it came. We rigged up a new set up for it yesterday. We took copper pipes, a couple of elbows and the squirrel baffle and now it sits by its lonesome about 8′ off the ground. That should work and it looks good too. The cats are getting better at chasing the squirrels. They have gotten to where they can frequently tag one. They just are not sure what to do with them after that. I’m still dreaming of a squirrel free yard.
