Women live longer than men because we don’t kill ourselves.
This is a subject I covered back in late 2003. This weeks news had yet another story about why women live longer than man so I thought I’d revisit it. This seems to be a subject that causes great distress to the male sex.
We have all seen the life expectancy tables that give women an additional 5 to 10 years of life more than men. This is consistent across various cultures. Why is that? I’ve heard everything blamed from hormones to diet. But the fact is, it is just plain old smarts. There are 105 men born for every 100 women in the US. Thus giving men the necessary head start to have equal numbers of us at mating age.

Using the Life Expectancy — from MathWorld and using the above accident/suicide/murder death rates we find men’s life expectancy is 64 and womens is 74. Thus explaining the 5 to 10 year difference in life span. This difference is decreasing and the reason is the trend towards idiot proofing everything. But this too shall revert, after all, idiot proof the world and the world will just build a better idiot.
Accidents are the leading cause of death for men until the 45 to 54 year old bracket and the leading cause of death for women until the 35-44 year old age bracket.
