Life in the flyover

LasVegas

without comments

We’ve just returned from a trip to LasVegas. Flying anywhere has gotten worse since the last time I flew, hard to imagine how that could be, but so it is. That guy who tried to blow up the airplane with his shoe should have to spend his life taking his shoes off and on and emptying all his stuff on to a conveyor belt for 12 hours a day.

LasVegas was freezing cold when we went so most of our time was spent doing indoor activities. You’d think the glitter and glamor would impact you the most when you travel there, but I guess we’re a bit more immune to that now that we’ve been in Houston for a while. The size of the casinos is what really jumps out at you. Each one must have a thousand rooms and you can wander around shops, restaurants, the casino floor and spend over an hour getting from end to end. Each casino has its own theme and some type of draw, ours had a wonderful indoor garden, some very nice restaurants and shops. Most of the casinos have copied Caesars in that they have indoor areas that are done up to look like outdoor areas, Rome, Paris, Venus and NY are all there in micro form.

The casino floor is filled with slot machines and gamboling tables. I saw a little old lady asleep on one machine and several two fisted gambolers feeding bills into two machines and tapping the buttons to spin the wheels on both machines at once, I guess in a hurry to see if they had hit the big one. Everyone we saw seemed to be a tourist like us, cameras hung around the neck and bundled in winter gear.
