The Texas Renaissance Festival is quite a bit larger than the one in Carver, Mass. It has several more sections of vendors, although each group has the same collection of swords, clothing, crystals and silver jewelry as the other groups.
One could spend the day walking, eating and enjoying the costumes. There was far more audience participation in dressing up and a much greater range of costumes than usual. One old man dressed like a fairy, several goth/black knight mixtures. There were fairy princesses everywhere along with the usual medieval costumes.
There were many more fortune tellers, including a guy in a gypsy cart with a parrot who would fit right into the tv “Carnival” series.
They had a half dozen or so Scotsmen performing Highland games. The various games involve excelling at different ways of storming the castle. One involved throwing on lit hay bales over the castle wall. These guys wimped and didn’t light theirs on fire. Another game involved throwing logs across the moat so as to make a bridge.
A Vaudeville/Burlesque type stage area was set up in what was intended to be an old time saloon, we watched two young women who were very good.
