Water

September 21st, 2005 · No Comments

Finding water has not been a problem which is very surprising considering the pack-ratting going on. I went to the grocery store this morning and some women are going to be very unhappy they sent their husbands shopping. I saw several carts piled high enough for two carts. One had water, slimfast, peanut butter and cheese crackers. Another guy had one full of water, Campbell’s chunky soup and peanut butter. We’re talking a life time supply of soup for most households.

Finding flashlights and batteries was rough. We haven’t lived here long enough to have accumulated all that stuff. I don’t understand why the natives don’t already have it all on hand? Home Depot had people at the door announcing they were out of generators. Several people in the parking lot were loading generators up and had huge piles of gas cans.

Gas was not a problem. Some stations had long lines, some were empty, others were just fine.

It looks like it’ll be a cat 4 or 5 when it hits. We’re bracing the roof now, something I planned to do this winter when the weather cooled but what can you do?

It still looks to be going well south of us, though we will be on the bad side of the storm.

Afternoon

45 is so backed up. They are crawling up by us. It is normally a two hour drive between here and Galveston, right now it is ten hours. At 6 pm, they will close the southbound side so both sides will go northbound only. That should speed things up for people.

We stopped for coffee and they are still carting cases of water out of the grocery stores. Unreal. Some seriously good planning is keeping those stores water stocks up. I’m sure it is helping to keep people from panicking.
