It is now aiming at Freeport/Galveston. In the simulations this is the worst possible landing spot for a hit near Houston. It also puts us directly in the path of the storm’s eye.
The highways along the evacuation route are close to parking lot status. Now the highways that still have south bound sides are having both north and south bound sides switched to north bound.
Afternoon:
The storm is heading towards us. The highways are still jammed, but the evacuation is moving along and there is lots of time yet. I know people who have gone 50 miles in 14 hours. People on the highway are scared and gas is running out but all in all things are going along. Police are going along the highway with gas cans refueling cars.
The cell phones are jammed, text messages are getting through but delayed. The net is still ok, and IM seems to be holding up ok.
