Wanderings and state fairs

Texas County Fairs

We took a ride west last night, towards what is known here as the “Hill Country”. Hill Country here is still much flatter than any place you’d run across back in New England. There are low, long rolling hills and the area is all cattle ranches from what we saw. We ran across the local State Fair in Bellview and dropped in.

The music was very good, the pictures of the bands were too blurry to post. They used horns, accordions, harmonicas, fiddles along with the usual drums and guitars. There were several Mexican songs played as well. At one point Roger Creager asked his backup singer to sing a song every one knows the words to and he started up with a verse from the theme song from Cheers. Good thing he only sang one verse and Roger then broke into ‘Ring of Fire’. It was clear it was not a hit with the audience.

We also saw the tail end of the rodeo.
