Life in the flyover

Tomorrow is closing/move-in day!!!

This homeless stuff is pricey.

We should be back online Friday, if not use the cell phone email if you need me.

We spent yesterday and today furniture shopping. So far we got the big stuff for the gym, office and master bedroom. We still need to do the guest room, living room, family room and library. We also have to do all the lamps, end tables etc. So we’ve a long way to go yet. It’ll be easier once we move in and can empty the cars.

Today driving around we went by a church, the sign read “Women come and learn your place”. Yes, it is still there, I’ll wait and visit one day when I’m in a tear about something or other and have a chat with the minister.

We also saw a cute church sign “God give us another oil boom and we promise we won’t screw this one up”

Driving is much easier here, the highways all have hov lanes, plus 4-6 lanes each way going in and out of the city. Beside each highway is a 2-3 lane access road. So that is 7-10 lanes each way. The interchanges are like something out of a cartoon. Highways are stacked on top of highways on top of highways, and there is easily 30′ between each road way. If you are on the top interchange you might be on a banked one lane on ramp 60′ to 90′ in the air. I’m still a bit skittish on highs but I expect I’ll be flying around them at 80 mph in a few months. The thought of being on the 6 pm news in a fully loaded Lincoln with Mass. plates being talked down by the local pd scares me more than driving over them.

The owner of the waterbed store was a trip. He looked like a stereo typic Italian man, short, way over groomed and with lots of gold jewelery. Every time we liked something he clapped his hands and said ‘butta-bing’. He was ~50ish and felt like an old hippy. He must’ve wound up here after the 60s wound down.

We bought the gym stuff at Sears and were waited on by a little old man who clearly didn’t use gym stuff much. They had a sale going on $99 rebate if you joined some weight loss thingy. After he rang up the order he handed me the rebate slip and I asked if he was trying to tell me I needed to lose weight. Great fun, he stopped dead.

After visiting zillions of furniture stores, we finally found one with modern furniture in a color other than red at a reasonable price. We’ll hit there Monday and put in an order for the family room and living room.
